Original 91% Skinny Mast HALF

Nolimitz

NL-ORGNL-HALF-Bottom Half-370

HALF ONLY.

Have you broken a mast? No need to replace the whole thing- just buy the half that you broke and sail on! Also, use mix and match halves to fine tune your sail.

NoLimitz makes two main mast lines- the Original and the SUMO. The SUMO is on average about one point stiffer than the Original. The ferrule diameters are exactly the same on all of the masts, so it’s very easy and acceptable to mix and match different mast halves to create a unique bend curve.

When one uses a regular bend mast in a sail that wants a stiffer top mast, you’ll notice that the upper part of the sail gets ridiculously loose and floppy before the lower part of the mast gets a chance to bend enough, leaving the main battens near the boom sticking way out in front of the mast. This can affect rotation and can even damage the battens and batten sleeves. It also will change how the sail feels- moving the center of effort down too low- leaving the user with an odd sensation of having power but at the same time nothing to lean against, greatly reducing the usable wind range of a sail.

In recent years, Gaastra, Naish, Severne, and Maui Sails have all preferred a stiffer top mast. This is subject to change and please check with the sail manufacturer to double check mast requirements. In order to create a stiff top mast, one needs only to put a SUMO top on an Original bottom. Here are some recommended combinations to create the perfect stiff top mast:

VERY Stiff Top: (Creates a sail with a relatively high COE but flatter belly)

Desired Mast Length (cm)

SUMO Top Length (cm)

Original Bottom Length (cm)
